Bunch of Morons

I hate protestors as much as anyone does.

But these latest protests over the Olympics torch relay are just ridiculous.

I don’t agree with what the Chinese government has done to Tibet, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to go and make a complete arse of myself like these wankers have done in the UK, France and most likely Australia, when it comes here.

Reasons they are idiots :

1. It’s the Olympics – it’s about sport, coming together, competing for your country and putting aside political indifferences for a few weeks.

2. Was Iraq booed at the Athens Olympics? No, they were cheered for putting aside all the troubles in their country, and proudly competing for their country.

3. One of the main concerns of these protestors is the violence in Tibet.

What about the violence they are imposing on these people carrying the flame! One poor woman nearly had her arm ripped off when an idiot protestor grabbed the torch. She then nearly copped the full flame of the torch in her face!

4. Is putting out the Olympic flame going to bring justice to Tibet? No, I don’t think so.

5. What about the actual torch bearers – these people have been chosen to carry the flame through their city because they have contributed to society. What have these protestors contributed? Fuck all I bet, apart from being a nuisance.

If I had contributed something to society, other than this shitty blog, and was able to be a torch relay runner, I’d make sure that if one of those pathetic protestors came near me, I’d use the torch as a light-sabre – Luke Skywalker style – to belt them around their head and then put the flame out in their face!

Bring on the Olympics!

Free Tibet!

See i kinda agree with you up to a point. Yeah its a bit of a cunty thing to do to the poor torch bearers BUT this is the only way for the world to realize about the atrocities in Tibet. Shaming the Chinese Govt at an international level will "hopefully" bring some justice to the people of Tibet.

Mrs Fitz & #2 Son were in Tibet 18 months ago. They have seen the oppression. It is real. It is ethnic cleansing. Tibetans are now a minority in their own territory.

It's also very hard to get any message of protest through to the Chinese leadership. They have an iron grip on their own mass media. Australian journalists have received faxes and press releases from the Chinese requesting "respectful coverage" of the torch relay. Oh dear, they think they can control ours and the rest of the world's media too.

The torch relay and the opening ceremony are the only opportunities to get a message through.

I agree with the need for respect to the torch-bearers. One of Mrs Fitz's business partners carried the torch in 2000.

A non-violent protest is best, like turning one's back on the flame. I know the Dalai Lama would not approve of any violence (contrary to the Chinese official line that he incites terrorism).

Good post, champ...couldn't agree more.
These protests are nothing more than cheap stunts aimed at gaining maximum airtime on international television.
Tibetan independence is an important issue but yanking the Chinese tiger's tail while the world's attention is focussed on them will only inflame the situation and get people hurt.
You want to stick a poker up China's ass, stop selling them resources, stop buying their cheap manufactued goods...

you have just justified the protesters in the writing of this post. two weeks ago, no one was talking about tibet; now they are.

Mars, you plonker...you could apply the same logic to the perpetrators of 9/11. They got the world's attention too.
The issue is whether there is a better way to make your point...

...plonk.

i agree to some extent, there probably is a better way to make a point. but the measures you mentioned need to be instigated by governments, these are individuals or small organisations... what else are they meant to do; stop buying cheap shoes in protest and wear a 'free tibet' badge on their satchel? that's not gonna get you talking, is it?
